How can I avoid slip and falls?

On Behalf of Cassian & Carter LLC | May 23, 2022 | Slip And Fall

A slip and fall accident may not always be a serious issue. In some cases, the only thing hurt is your ego after the embarrassment of a fall.

Sometimes, though, a fall can be incredibly severe and lead to a medical emergency. In any case, learning how to avoid slip and fall accidents is in your best interests.

Know how they happen

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention explain that slip and fall accidents may occur almost anywhere. You could slip on a wet floor inside a business or slide on ice on a sidewalk. You may trip over a rug in your home or fall due to bad lighting. Risky situations are everywhere, so it is essential to be more aware of your surroundings. Don’t rush and pay attention when walking.

Spot risks

Part of paying attention is looking out for potential hazards. You should watch out for uneven flooring. Check for wet spots. Be aware of weather conditions, so you will know about the risks of rain, ice or snow before leaving your home.

Make sure you avoid cluttered areas as they can introduce hazards you may not notice. Pay attention to signs that warn of bumps or other hazards. Make sure that you use handrails when available on stairs or ramps.

Be aware of injuries

A slip and fall may just result in bruises and scrapes. However, there is a real potential for a severe injury, such as broken bones or a brain injury. You never know what could happen because the injuries are the result of you hitting the ground, not the actual slipping and falling process. If you land the wrong way, it could result in an injury that you will suffer for a long time, possibly the rest of your life.
